1960 Dennis F28 fire engineOn Sunday 6 August 1962 a meeting was held at Sumner Fire Station to discuss the running of a Mid Canterbury Demonstration. Brigades north of Ashburton and south of the Waimakariri River were invited, being Akaroa, Addington Railway, Burnham Military Camp, Christchurch City, Darfield, Diamond Harbour, Leeston, Lyttelton, Methven, New Brighton, Rakaia, Southbridge and Sumner.

Senior Station Officer McNab of Sumner extended an invitation to host the demonstration on 13 October 1962 at 10.00am sharp. Events one, four, six and nine from the United Fire Brigades Association programme to be run. Event six to be optional draw for places and event nine to be run with screw hydrant and if time permitted the same run could be run with a valve hydrant.

At a Special General Meeting held on Sunday 26 July 1970 at Lincoln Fire Station a committee was formed to run the Mid Canterbury Fire Brigades Sub Association.

The executive consisted of:
